GENERAL PRINCIPLES
The Golden Rules
- Eating small, frequent meals is better than eating a lot all at once
- Fish do NOT need to eat every day—they can easily go 2–3 days without food, or even a week
- Anything not eaten within 2–3 minutes is excess → remove it or serve less
- Excess food is the #1 cause of water quality problems
- Weekly 1-day fast → reduces waste buildup, aids digestion
How much is too much?
- If, after 3 minutes, there's food floating on the surface or at the bottom: you've added too much
- If the fish are obsessively searching the bottom: you haven't given them enough (but they're fine—it's a normal instinct)
- If the water gets cloudy after eating: you've given too much
