Marine
Apple Snails (Pomacea)
- Sexing: The male has a visible penis beneath the operculum (thick white tube)
- The female lays clusters of pink eggs OUTSIDE the water (on the lid or the rim)
- They hatch in 2–4 weeks
- The young fall into the water at birth
Ramshorn / Physa
- Simultaneous hermaphrodites — two individuals fertilize each other
- They spread gelatinous egg mixtures on the glass and add decorations
- They reproduce explosively if there is an excess of food
FISH FRY AND YOUNG FISH REARING
Feeding by Stage
| Age | Food |
|---|---|
| 0–3 days | Yolk sac (they don't eat it) |
| 3–7 days | Infusoria, fry meal, boiled egg yolk |
| 1–2 weeks | Artemia nauplii, micro worms, fry meal |
| 2–4 weeks | Small adult Artemia, cyclops, fine powder |
| 1 month+ | Adult Artemia, finely frozen |
Cultivation of Infusoria
Infusoria = culture of microorganisms (paramecia, rotifers, vorticellae) How to Grow:
- Container with water from the aquarium
- Add boiled lettuce or banana peel
- Store at room temperature away from direct light
- Within 3–5 days, the "soup" becomes cloudy → full of infusoria
- Add directly to the breeding tank
Feeding Frequency for Young Animals
4–6 times a day. Fry have a very fast metabolism and need to be fed constantly during their first few weeks.
Water Quality Control in Breeding Aquariums
- Fry are very sensitive to ammonia
- Small daily water changes (10%) using prepared water of the same temperature and parameters
- Use a very gentle siphon or no siphon at all during the first few weeks (to remove fry)
