Marine cyanobacteria

Marine Cyanobacteria

They behave the same way as in freshwater, but are more common in new marine aquariums.

Marine form: Red, fuchsia, or dark orange-brown spots in addition to blue-green. The marine Phormidium can have unusual colors.

Where is it found?: Sandy substrate (anoxic layers are ideal), live rock, rock substrate.

How to remove it in "Marino":

  • Manual + Daily Siphon
  • Improved water flow at the bottom
  • Antibiotics (erythromycin): Possible, but it puts the live rock at risk. Physical methods are preferable.
  • Cheato in the shelter: The Chaetomorpha algae in the shelter competes for nutrients.
  • Reduce organic matter: Optimized skimmer, reduced feeding.
