Notes: One of the few crab species that does not require saltwater to reproduce. The young are born on land as miniature versions of the adults. They are bright red-orange with violet eyes. They need as much or more land area than water area. A secure lid is essential: they escape easily. They feed mainly on land but drink water regularly.
